The Nature Lovers’ Guide To Burlington, KY

For all our nature lovers and/or families looking for some outdoor fun in Burlington, Kentucky, here are a few of our favorite spots right here in Boone County! We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

England

Idlewild

Park

If you’re looking to kick the ball around the field, to have a relaxing picnic with your family, to shoot some hoops on the court, to take your kids to the playground, to enjoy some nice hiking and mountain biking trails, or to bring your furry friends for a day out in the sun, England Idlewild Park has it all. From the basketball court and its sports fields to its picnic areas and dog park, there is something for everyone.

There are almost two miles of paved hiking trails and over six miles of unpaved mountain bike trails at this local park! So bring your sneakers or your biking gear and come enjoy the trails. Bring your dog and let him run off leash at the designated dog park. If you’re tired from a long day at work and don’t have the energy to take your pet on a walk, the dog park is the perfect place to go. Let them run free and get their exercise as you sit and relax.

This park is also perfect for the sports fans, both young and old. There are soccer fields, baseball fields, softball fields, and basketball courts for you to enjoy. If you’re not into high-adrenaline sports, however, there is also the 24-hole frisbee golf course! Why not check out all that England Idlewild Park has to offer? Come visit this weekend!

Boone

Woods

Park

Much like England Idlewild, Boone Woods Park has something for everyone. There are picnic shelters, basketball and bocce ball courts, six tennis courts, two pickleball courts, volleyball courts, an 18-hole frisbee golf course, a playground for the kiddos, hiking and running trails, and *drumroll* the Creekside Stage! In the summertime, this 50-acre park hosts outdoor movies and concerts right there on the Creekside Stage, drawing locals from the Burlington and nearby areas.

Take a nice stroll through one of the oldest parks in the Boone County area and take in the beautiful foliage. Boone Woods Park attracts hundreds of local residents each week. Consider coming during the week as the weekends can get pretty packed!

Gunpowder

Creek

Nature

Park

Gunpowder Creek Nature Park offers visitors a relaxing atmosphere and moderately challenging hiking trails. The trial is about 1.5 miles long and loops back around. As you hike, you can enjoy the beautiful river scenery, wildlife, and foliage. In the summer, jump in the river to cool off!

With 122 wooded acres, this park is the perfect place to see some wildlife! Bring your binoculars…maybe you’ll see a rare bird species or other interesting specimens along the way!

If you have kids, take them to the playground before or after your hike. You can sit and enjoy your surroundings as they run around and play. And finally, you can end your day with a nice picnic at one of the designated spots. There are also grills stationed throughout the picnic areas for your convenience. Bring some hotdogs and burgers and have a nice lunch or early dinner with your family right on the park grounds! If picnicking isn’t really your thing, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Burlington!
